Status and Evolution of the PACE Model of Care

This session will provide a brief overview of the (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) model of care, how it has evolved, its current status, and its success in lowering costs and enhancing care outcomes for frail older adults.  The speaker will describe future growth potential, outline federal and state policy barriers and opportunities, and innovations and opportunities to expand access among the growing number of older adults in need of LTSS.

About the Speaker:

Shawn Bloom is the President and CEO of the National PACE Association (NPA), a leading national organization dedicated to supporting Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). Since joining NPA in 2000, Shawn has played a pivotal role in the association's growth and influence. Under his leadership, NPA has grown from representing 18 organizations to 185 PACE organizations, providing care to more than 83,530 participants across 33 states and the District of Columbia.

As President and CEO, Shawn has been instrumental in advancing the PACE model, which provides comprehensive, community-based care for older adults with complex health needs. Before joining NPA, Shawn spent 5 years as the Executive Director of the Missouri Association of Homes for the Aging, which represented not-for-profit long-term health care and housing facilities in the state. Shawn previously was in the Policy and Governmental Affairs Division of the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (now called Leading Age).

Shawn received his B.S. in biochemistry and gerontology from Kansas State University and has a Masters in long term care at the University of North Texas, Center for Studies in Aging. Shawn began his career in the field working as a nursing home Certified Nurse Aide in high school and college.
